The beginning of Summer

Matt has been working really hard on the house, he took a few days off to work and got a lot done. We bought our cabinets and we have to paint them and then put them in. Then we'll need to tile the floor and get a counter, and a back splash. I feel like I can see a light at the end of the tunnel. My parents finished the shower and I love it! I am trying to pick a paint color now.

We bought a water table for Adrian and it is a lifesaver. He played with it forever today, he just loves water so much. It's nice not having to chase him through the yard. When he got bored with the table he started chasing birds. We have so many in the yard right now I keep thinking of the movie and side-eyeing the birds. We should buy a bird feeder and get on their good side.

Apparently I've been watching Call the Midwife so much that as soon as I turned it on today Adrian yelled "Babies!" He knew what to expect.  I love hearing him talk more these days.

We visited my parents while they babysat Michelle's kids and Hudson hugged Adrian right away but they both toppled over. It was very sweet! All the kids love each other. Adrian kissed Hudson several times and Caroline "flew" both the little boys in a box pretending it was a spaceship. He had a lot of fun and was too excited to even eat dinner.

I haven't shared the wreath I made for summer. I got tired of that teal one and stuck it on the door at the new house for now. I love the colors in this one, I just picked a bunch of felt and went for it.

Stop staring at the sun

Adrian is starting to learn numbers. He is starting to understand the gist of counting but he likes to use 8 and 10 over and over.  He also recognizes a lot of letters and likes to play with the magnetic alphabet on the fridge. Too bad over half of the letters have gone missing.

Leapfrog has a video about the moon that he recently found and now he is obsessed with the moon.  When we go out in the evening he points it out and jumps trying to get it. We went on a walk with my mom in the afternoon and he kept trying to stare at the sun, screaming "moon! moon!" I kept telling him "that's the sun, don't look at it" but what do I know.

The other day Matt had the computer and the tv so I decided to try a hair tutorial for fun.  I found a Rosie the Riveter inspired style.  I like how it looks from the side but I think it looks silly on me from the front.  The victory roll was hard! Maybe my hair is too long and thin.  It was still fun but Matt wasn't a fan of it.

On Tuesday I got a hair cut. I love it. I realized it had been over a year since my last visit to the salon.

We're pretty boring this week. Matt started his new job and has a normal schedule now. I like it so much better. For some reason it helps me get more things done. I feel more motivated.  Tonight I'm making homemade pizza which I haven't tried yet. Then I think we will go look at appliances.

New house update April

The house is coming together, we have had some issues along the way.  We won't be getting stairs from the kitchen to the basement.  In the end I'm glad because I can have my laundry in the kitchen instead of the basement.  I feel like I'll get things done more easily if they're closer together.

The master bath, the one I got to design.

Adrian's room, a nice light green

I'm letting Matt decorate this room for now, it'll be an office/craft room for a bit.  When we have another baby it will be in our room first and then maybe it can share with Adrian.  Or I'll just kick Matt out of this room.

The kitchen is a work in progress and we still have to paint the outside of the house, which might not happen until next year.  Our goal is to have it done by the end of May.

Those crazy days of toddlerhood

Now that Adrian is acting more like a toddler (crazy) I decided to blog again to keep myself sane, and make sure I have a record of behavior I can use for guilt trips later on.  I'm not even going to try to catch up with the past few months.  I'll do a post about the house though.

There are some random recent pictures for you.

Matt made mashed potatoes from a box yesterday and put some garlic in them but they were too strong for me and Matt didn't taste anything.  Adrian was too busy complaining about his meat being cut up to even think about touching his potatoes. Instead he decided to force feed them to Matt. He tried to get Matt to open up, and then he licked the potatoes and said "MMM" so Matt would see how good they are.  Alas, it didn't work.

Today he decided to freak the hell out because his meat was cut up again.  He wants to eat from our plates instead.  I told him no one likes having food taken from their plate, especially one day when you go on a date.  That's a deal breaker.

Other than the occasional fit things are going pretty well.  He isn't talking a whole lot, he prefers to grunt and point and use one or two word sentences at the moment.  His doctor isn't worried so far so I'm just trying to ask him questions and get him to talk.  He has been saying more words lately.  Mostly I think he is just stubborn, like me, and will speak when he damn well pleases.

He is still very loving and likes to cuddle and give kisses.  He's friendly and likes to say hi and bye to strangers.  He keeps licking everything, I don't know where that came from. He likes being physically active all day, I try to sit and do educational activities with him but he would rather wrestle or go outside and pick up sticks.  He loves technology, he figured out how to use phones and tablets really fast. He's a clown, he likes to make people laugh.  He loves water, animals, spongebob, and Frozen.

I'm going to sign him up to start preschool in September.  I can't believe he's closer to 3 than 2.  My baby is growing up!

July

Adrian had so much fun on the 4th of July playing with his cousins and exploring a mud puddle.  We jumped on a trampoline and had homemade ice cream.  Adrian clapped for the fireworks while I covered his ears, and then quickly fell asleep.

This month I've been busy getting ready for Adrian's party and most of it trying to get my house into some kind of order.  I just want to keep getting rid of things.   Adrian has been busy trashing my house and learning new words.

We've managed to go swimming a couple of times and Adrian loved it.  It's tempting to get him a bathing suit with a tube built into it like I had when I was little.  Those are hilarious.
He fell asleep like this by the air conditioning vent.

He's awake here, just being silly.

I started working out again, I know I do this on and off all the time.  I think I picked a video that can hold my interest this time.  We're giving up fast food and trying to drink less soda.  We cancelled the cable and are going to get a cheaper phone service.  My goal is to lose 10-20 pounds.  I would love to fit into my dresses again and my eating habits have gotten in the way of that.  This will also help me practice my cooking more.  It's embarrassing that I only know how to cook chicken and hamburger.  I would also like to get more advanced with sewing so I can make Adrian's Halloween costumes and perhaps make my own clothes.
Looks like he's scolding Sophie but he was just talking.

I can't believe Adrian is going to turn two in two days.  He doesn't look like a 2 year old to me, but he sure acts like one.  He talks more and more all the time, it's just not always understandable.  He throws tantrums, tells me when he needs a diaper change, and one time I watched while he opened the screen door and threw several toys outside so he could play.  We will be getting him his first haircut soon and I can picture Matt and I holding each other and bawling.

A big boy bed and a house update

A few days ago I watched Adrian climb up the stairs and creep over to the opening at the top.  I thought he was going to attempt to get on the other side of the gate.  Nope, he used the side of the stairs as a slide.  Here's a picture, I don't know what to call it:

In our new house it will be easier to put a gate up on the stairs, and there aren't as many stairs.  I'm so glad we are moving soon.

In the past few days Adrian has said "Adrian's treats" in regards to some baby fruit snacks, he has said "Papa" when I was talking about my dad, and he has started saying "yes".

We turned Adrian's bed into a toddler bed.  He has been doing pretty well.  He got out of bed in the middle of the night once and he seemed really upset so I wasn't sure if he had a nightmare.  I was really tired so I just let him climb in bed with me.  Otherwise he has been sleeping through the night and enjoying his freedom in the morning.  I've been giving him a stuffed sheep that makes a bunch of peaceful sounds like the ocean, and rain.  That helps him especially since people are setting off fireworks.

We tried to have a garage sale on Friday and it down poured all day.  On Saturday the weather cooperated and we had a pretty good day, but still not as many shoppers as we wanted.  We were going to try again on Sunday but again, it was rainy.  The weather has been so weird.  Still, I made some money and my house is less cluttered.  We are going to try again in a couple of weeks.

I took pictures of the tile that got put in the house so far:

The lighting was terrible but this is the tile and border for my bathroom.  The tile is actually white.

I can't believe we wore long sleeves and pants yesterday, in July.  We went to the park and got attacked by mosquitoes.  I got some cute pictures though:

I hope everyone has a fun and safe 4th of July!  God bless America!
