A big boy bed and a house update

A few days ago I watched Adrian climb up the stairs and creep over to the opening at the top.  I thought he was going to attempt to get on the other side of the gate.  Nope, he used the side of the stairs as a slide.  Here's a picture, I don't know what to call it:

In our new house it will be easier to put a gate up on the stairs, and there aren't as many stairs.  I'm so glad we are moving soon.

In the past few days Adrian has said "Adrian's treats" in regards to some baby fruit snacks, he has said "Papa" when I was talking about my dad, and he has started saying "yes".

We turned Adrian's bed into a toddler bed.  He has been doing pretty well.  He got out of bed in the middle of the night once and he seemed really upset so I wasn't sure if he had a nightmare.  I was really tired so I just let him climb in bed with me.  Otherwise he has been sleeping through the night and enjoying his freedom in the morning.  I've been giving him a stuffed sheep that makes a bunch of peaceful sounds like the ocean, and rain.  That helps him especially since people are setting off fireworks.

We tried to have a garage sale on Friday and it down poured all day.  On Saturday the weather cooperated and we had a pretty good day, but still not as many shoppers as we wanted.  We were going to try again on Sunday but again, it was rainy.  The weather has been so weird.  Still, I made some money and my house is less cluttered.  We are going to try again in a couple of weeks.

I took pictures of the tile that got put in the house so far:

The lighting was terrible but this is the tile and border for my bathroom.  The tile is actually white.

I can't believe we wore long sleeves and pants yesterday, in July.  We went to the park and got attacked by mosquitoes.  I got some cute pictures though:

I hope everyone has a fun and safe 4th of July!  God bless America!

A visit from Eric and the end of an era

Today we had dinner with some old co-workers. I had to drive downtown by myself, which scared the crap out of me.  Thank goodness for the street view on google maps.  It let me know what to expect and helped me plan the easiest route there.  It was a nice dinner.  Something about the place reminded me of Eric; there were a lot of people that dressed similarly to him.  It made me miss him but I'm so glad we got to see him last weekend!  Adrian really liked him and they got to hang out for a little while.  I think Eric's calm demeanor helped his case; also the fact that he is an awesome uncle.
Is this not the cutest outfit you've ever seen?  Props to my mom.  Also note his trend of only wearing one sock.  Kids these days.
I went back and forth with myself over the decision to put the baby swing away.  On one hand, he still liked it, he would nap in it, and it's so cute!  On the other hand, he was starting to try to sit up and reach for the mobile.  Of course, safety wins.  I was so sad, but I'll admit my living room looks better.  The swing used to be next to the tv and my second queen anne's chair was awkwardly placed in the middle of the room so it created an L with the couch.  Now my chairs are on either side of the tv and Adrian has a huge space to roll around and crawl in.  He will be on the move any day now; we play on the floor as much as possible.  Even though I will be chasing him, I'm excited for this next stage.  He is growing so fast and I can't help but wonder if we will ever bring out that swing again.  I can't imagine being "one and done."

My dad's side of the family hasn't met Adrian yet, so we are planning on visiting soon.  He will definitely be crawling then; if not, he'll learn as he runs away from the giant mosquitos.  Seriously, those suckers go through jeans!  Despite the horrid weather and bugs, I'll be excited to see where Eric lives, and I haven't seen my family for a long time.

At least I'm honest (or, Julie the music snob)

My friend Jill had her baby, Anakin, last Wednesday!  I’m hoping to visit this Saturday.  It feels like we waited forever for him to be born.  My baby will only be about 7 months younger, I’m sure they will be friends!  Although I bet they will be a grade apart.

Yesterday we went to Target for some random things and I told Matt I wanted to stop by the baby section and look at the strollers and swings in person.  I’ve been looking online but they don’t let you zoom very far.  This was obviously torture for Matt because it isn’t a very manly section and heaven forbid anyone knows he is going to be a father.  He would rather be in the more mature toy section by the Legos and super heroes.

There’s a bird/dog themed pattern that I kind of like there.  I figure I should probably get unisex gear that I can use for all my kids.  (Sometimes being practical is boring.)  Most of what I saw would work for either sex though, so it’s not going to be difficult. I think the bird mobile is adorable.

I bought an Everly Brothers CD last night.  They are known for such hits as:
*Bye Bye Love
*All I Have to Do is Dream
*Wake Up Little Susie

I got it in my head that the first songs the baby hears in-utero will be 50s/60s.  Not that it will make any difference in his life but it’s a start to getting way more musically cultured than his/her father.  I wont leave the other decades out though, they are all awesome!  I grew up with tons of music, music is a big deal. Matt is mostly apathetic.  I LOVE Sam Cooke so I want some of that too.  In all likelihood the first music the baby will hear will probably be me singing to Death Cab For Cutie in the car because I'm pretty obsessed with them right now. At least I'm honest.
